The "Universe 25" experiment is one of the most terrifying experiments in the history of science, an attempt by scientists to explain human societies through the behavior of a rat colony.

The "Universe 25" experiment is one of the most terrifying experiments in the history | The Most Terrifying Experiments Ever Conducted

The idea for "Universe 25" came from the American scientist John Calhoun, who created an "ideal world" in which hundreds of mice would survive and thrive. More specifically, Calhoun created the so-called "rat paradise", a specially designed place where rats had a large living space with plenty of food and water.

Initially, he kept four pairs of rats, which began to reproduce in a short time, resulting in a rapid increase in their population. However, after 315 days, their production began to decline significantly. When the number of mice reached 600, a classification was established between them and then the so-called "defects" appeared.

Larger rats began to attack the group, causing many males to "fall" psychologically. As a result, women did not protect themselves and, in turn, became aggressive against their children. As time went on, women showed more and more aggressive behavior, elements of loneliness, and lack of reproductive temperament.

There was a low birth rate and at the same time, the mortality rate of young rats increased. Then, a new class of male mice appeared, the so-called "beautiful mice". He refused to have sex with women or "fight" for his place. All they cared about was food and sleep. At one point, "handsome men" and "isolated women" made up the majority of the population.

As time went on, adolescent mortality reached 100% and fertility reached zero. Among endangered mice, homosexuality was observed, and, at the same time, despite the fact that there was plenty of food. The last child of the colony was born two years after the experiment began. By 1973, it had killed the last rat in the universe 25. John Calhoun repeated the same experiment 25 more times, and each time the result was the same.

This scientific work has been used as a model for interpreting social decline, and this research serves as a focal point for the study of urban sociology.
